Well be: Overcoming the negative effects of Covid-19 among high school students

31-10-2022 23:02 - Press releases
Supporting secondary education students in building resilience and overcoming the negative effects of social exclusion after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the objective of the Erasmus+ project “Well be” (Project No. 2020-1-UK01-KA201-079148), in which the training agency Forium – Santa Croce sull’Arno, is participating as the unique Italian partner, thus consolidating its presence on the continental scene after having collaborated in other actions always linked to the sphere of education.

The project kick-off meeting was held in February 2020. Among the project partners are The Mighty Creatives, based in Leicester-UK (coordinator of “Well be”), the National Management School (Sofia, Bulgaria) and M&M Profuture Training S.L. (Barcelona).

“The Well-Be project”combines the commitment and reflections of the four partners on the current challenges in school education resulting from the global pandemic. This has been achieved by analysing the psychological effects and social exclusion in students and, on this basis, we update the educational priorities, focusing pedagogical measures on the needs of students in the post-pandemic situation”.

From the activities of the ‘Well be’ working group, which have had a two-year working period, two concrete actions have been put in place:

The first is a handout so that appropriate, reliable and effective tools for measuring the impact of crisis stress on the current mental state of students will be available in secondary schools. These tools will be useful for teachers, parents and all those interested in supporting young people in the post-pandemic situation so that they can explore the psycho-emotional state, attitudes, needs, motivations and typologies of children’s response to stress.

The other outcome of the project is a guide for high school teachers to work with students who have experienced the COVID-19 crisis, through the provision of an online archive of documents to support the psychological well-being of young people and to maintain a positive climate at school.

In this way we will be able to provide systematic information on appropriate interaction approaches, training methods and specific thematic developments to overcome the effects of the crisis, restore mental well-being and develop personal resilience in students aged 14-19.

The in-depth and systematic information that will emerge over the two-year project period will provide a starting point for the changes that need to be made in the education system and for the provision of the necessary resources to meet the needs of students and teachers to cope with critical situations.
